Major record labels are allegedly pushing Spotify to increase subscription prices in the U.S., leading to another potential price hike for users.
If you enjoy listening to music or podcasts, Spotify is a popular choice, but you’ll likely need a subscription to avoid ads and enjoy uninterrupted listening.
Spotify’s Premium subscription price has increased several times in recent years, depending on the country. For example, individual subscribers in the United Kingdom now pay £12.99 per month, a £1 increase from the previous price.
For several months, experts have predicted that prices in the United States will likely increase, potentially starting in 2026.
Record labels are reportedly pressuring Spotify
Okay, so I just saw a report in the Financial Times – Spotify’s raising its prices in the US next year. Apparently, record labels have been pushing them to do it, so it’s not really Spotify’s choice, it seems.
According to a recent report in the Financial Times, major record labels are urging music streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music to raise their prices. They argue that current subscription costs haven’t kept pace with inflation and are relatively low compared to video streaming services like Netflix.
The Financial Times report doesn’t state the new price, but it points out that subscriptions haven’t increased since July 2024, when they last cost $11.99 per month.

The price increase in 2024 came after a similar one in 2023. These were the first price changes Spotify Premium had made since 2011, when a monthly subscription cost $9.99.
So, I was reading that analysts at JP Morgan think prices might go up again in 2026, potentially hitting around $12.99 a month. They’re saying it could end up being about the same price as what people in the UK are paying right now.
They said this could come by “early 2026,” which has also been suggested by the Financial Times.
