Singer Jackson Browne shared the sad news of his son, Ethan Browne’s, passing on Facebook Wednesday night. Ethan, who worked as a model and actor, was found unresponsive at his home on November 25, 2025, and has died. The family has asked for privacy during this difficult time and has stated that no further information will be released right now.
Ethan Browne was born in 1973 to singer Jackson Browne and model Phyllis Major. Just six months later, he appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine, held by his father. In the accompanying article, Jackson Browne expressed his joy at becoming a father, saying he felt like a child again and loved the innocence and energy of his son. Jackson and Phyllis married in December 1975, but tragically, Phyllis died by suicide just four months later. Years later, in 2021, Jackson Browne reflected on his life, stating his greatest hope was to balance his career as a songwriter with being a dedicated father.
Ethan had a diverse career, working as a model, actor, and musician. He appeared in the 1995 film Hackers alongside Angelina Jolie and Jonny Lee Miller, and also had a role in the 2004 Kate Hudson movie Raising Helen. Later, he shifted his focus to music, founding a record label and collaborating with Cat Colbert, whose father is bassist Charles Colbert, to release an album.
Jackson Browne didn’t share details about how his son, Ethan, passed away. He is survived by his father, Jackson, and half-brother, Ryan, whose mother is Jackson’s second wife, Lynne Sweeney.
