Songwriting can be a really powerful way to express and release emotions. For Jessie J, who previously had a very public relationship with actor Channing Tatum, her new music is naturally drawing attention. Her new album comes out this Friday, and she’s hinted that one of the songs is about her ex.
Jessie J’s latest album, Don’t Tease Me With A Good Time, took five years to create and is her first release since 2018. At a listening event in West London, as reported by The Sun, she shared details about one of the songs on the album.
I wrote [Threw It Away] in 2020 with Ryan Tedder, and you can figure out who I was dating.
Everyone knows Jessie J and Channing Tatum had an on-again, off-again relationship from 2018 to 2020. So, when she mentioned the song was recorded in 2020, it strongly suggests it’s about him – specifically, the star of Deadpool & Wolverine. Here are some of the lyrics reportedly included in the song:
It became awkward when I completely opened up and shared my feelings. But I know what goes around comes around, because I gave you my love, and you didn’t appreciate it.
It’s unclear exactly what led to their split, but Jessie J and Channing Tatum dated for about a year, from October 2018 to 2019. They briefly got back together in early 2020, but ultimately didn’t reconcile for good and remained separated after that.
In 2021, Tatum began dating Zoë Kravitz. Around the same time, Jessie J briefly dated dancer Max Pham Nguyen before starting a relationship with basketball player Chanan Colman. Jessie and Chanan have been together since 2021 and welcomed a son in 2023.
Here’s another lyric from the new song:
Don’t you dare rewrite the story. I’m the beauty, you’re the beast.
After his 12-year relationship and eventual 2024 divorce from Jenna Dewan, Channing Tatum began dating Jessie J. He later became engaged to Zoë Kravitz in November 2023, but they ended their relationship about a year later.
These days, Tatum is dating Australian model Inka Williams.

You can now pre-order Jessie J’s upcoming album, Don’t Tease Me With A Good Time, on vinyl! It’s scheduled to be released on December 5th. See the deal here.
Jessie J had a mastectomy in July after being diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer in June. The surgery went well, and she plans to launch her “No Secrets” tour in early 2026.
Jessie J’s new album, with 16 tracks, will likely reveal details about her life since 2018, and it sounds like her relationship with Channing Tatum might be a central theme. We’ll have to listen to the full album, titled Don’t Tease Me With A Good Time, to find out all the details.
