Everyone was thrilled when Jeff Hiller won an Emmy for his role in the final season of *Somebody Somewhere*. Hiller, who won Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, jokingly shared that he’d been pursuing acting for 25 years while the world seemed to suggest a career in computers. He beat out stiff competition, including Harrison Ford, Bowen Yang, and Michael Urie, all of whom seemed genuinely happy for him – Urie even appeared to be moved to tears.
Hiller has worked as an actor for many years, appearing in small roles on shows like *30 Rock* and *Difficult People*. He then found a breakthrough role as Joel in *Somebody Somewhere*. Through his connection with Bridget Everett’s character, Sam, Joel helps her learn to accept herself, and in the process, discovers his own identity as a gay man living in a rural area.
During Nate Bargatze’s acceptance speech, Hiller jokingly called out HBO for airing his show, about everyday middle-aged people, alongside the teen drama *Euphoria*. He then expressed gratitude to the Duplass brothers, his husband, and especially Bridget Everett. He shared, “You changed my life and inspired so many to believe in themselves,” before offering a heartfelt thank you.
