Next month, the popular TV show Supernatural will be leaving Netflix after 12 years on the streaming service. The show first became available on Netflix in 2012 and quickly gained a large following, becoming as popular as many of Netflix’s original series. This isn’t surprising, considering Supernatural has a dedicated fanbase who enjoy rewatching it as a comforting favorite.
Many fans were surprised to see Supernatural leave Netflix, but industry insiders predicted it. Netflix had a five-year exclusive license to stream the show after its final season in 2020, and that agreement has now ended. As a result, Supernatural will be available on Peacock starting December 22nd.
According to What’s on Netflix, all 15 seasons of Supernatural will be leaving Netflix on December 18, 2025. It’s not just Supernatural though—The 100 and Arrow are also being removed. With all three shows having been available for years, it feels like a significant change, and it really shows how valuable owning physical copies of shows can be. Streaming services often lose or move content with little notice.
What Makes ‘Supernatural’ Such An Iconic TV Show?

The CW
Though it initially appears to be a typical show about brothers battling monsters, Supernatural is actually a complex and moving series. At its heart, it’s a story about family bonds, the weight of sacrifice, dealing with trauma, and finding redemption – which is why it connected with so many viewers. Despite its supernatural themes, the show is surprisingly relatable, focusing primarily on the powerful relationship between brothers Sam and Dean.
Beyond just being entertaining, the show developed a rich and complex backstory over its many seasons, keeping viewers hooked for over ten years and contributing to its popularity. While some individual episodes were particularly strong, like “Mystery Spot” and “Scoobynatural,” it was the episodes that advanced the central story – the fight between good and evil – that truly made the series feel exceptional and unmissable.
Given all of its strengths, it’s no surprise Supernatural is considered a classic, so its departure from Netflix is a bit sad. Luckily, the show won’t be gone forever – it’s still available to stream and might even reach new viewers when it moves to Peacock next month.
