More than a year after the movie ‘It Ends With Us’ came out, the legal disagreement between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni is still ongoing, and now the book’s author, Colleen Hoover, has spoken publicly about the situation.
Despite receiving mixed reviews (with a 55% rating on Rotten Tomatoes), the film remains in the news due to a highly publicized dispute between its stars. Blake Lively filed a lawsuit against her co-star, Justin Baldoni, in December 2024, alleging sexual harassment and defamation.
Baldoni then sued Lively, accusing him of defamation, extortion, and violating his privacy. He also unsuccessfully tried to involve Taylor Swift in the legal battle. While Baldoni’s lawsuit was thrown out, Lively’s case is still moving forward and is scheduled to go to trial in March 2026.
This is a very complicated and difficult issue, and the book’s author has spoken publicly for the first time about the legal problems surrounding ‘It Ends With Us,’ admitting she’s been deeply upset by them.
Colleen Hoover gets “PTSD” thinking about It Ends With Us legal drama
Colleen Hoover, the author of It Ends With Us, has shared that she has mixed emotions about both the book and the upcoming movie, largely due to the conflict between the lead actors. She’s trying to distance herself from the drama, but revisiting the story is difficult because it was based on her mother’s experience with abuse, which continues to be painful for both of them.
She’s stopped recommending the work, feeling that the lawsuit surrounding it has become more prominent than the work itself. She admitted to Elle that she’s even embarrassed to discuss having written it, and now simply says she’s a writer when asked about her work, hoping to avoid further questions.
You know, it really got to me when Hoover said how proud he was of that book, but also how he’s pulled back from talking about it publicly now. He even joked he might need therapy! It just felt really honest and a little heartbreaking to hear him say that, like something genuinely affected him.
Even with the ongoing legal issues, Hollywood sees a large audience interested in Colleen Hoover’s stories, and several adaptations are currently being made. The first film based on her work, Reminders of Him, starring Maika Monroe, Tyriq Withers, Bradley Whitford, and Lainey Wilson, will be released in theaters in March 2026.
