10 RPGs Coming in 2026 that You Need To Wishlist Now

2026 looks set to be a great year for gaming, and we’re especially excited about the upcoming role-playing games. RPGs are consistently popular because they give players a lot of choice and freedom in how they experience the game.

Okay, so RPGs are everywhere these days, but the ones coming out in 2026 really seem like they’re going to deliver on what we expect from the genre. I’m talking huge, detailed open worlds you can get lost in, and tons of different character classes to play as. I’m seriously hyped for these releases – they look like they’re going to be amazing!

10. Alkahest

Poisons and Potions

Alkahest is a dark and gritty medieval RPG that’s already turning heads with its gameplay trailer. It features exciting combat centered around poisons and magical oils used to defeat enemies like goblins, all within a beautifully crafted world. But it’s not just about looks – the game offers a wide range of potions, items, and skills, letting players find unique and inventive ways to battle and explore.

Alkahest blends fast-paced parkour with dungeon exploration and challenging combat in a dangerous world. Beyond just action, the game tells the story of a young man – the son of a minor nobleman – striving to earn renown in the kingdom of Kadanor.

9. Chronicles: Medieval

A New Immersive Medieval Sim

Chronicles: Medieval is generating a lot of excitement and is poised to be one of the year’s biggest games, even outside of the medieval game category. This first game from independent developer Raw Power Games offers a large, open-ended medieval world where players have complete freedom to forge their own path and live life as they choose.

Chronicles: Medieval seems to offer players a lot of freedom – you can choose to live a simple life as a shopkeeper or rise to become a respected knight. Although we haven’t seen much gameplay yet, the initial impression is positive, and the game perfectly captures the feeling of the medieval period.

8. Blind Descent

What’s Down There?

Release Date TBA (2026)
Developer Pokuch
Publisher META Publishing

With so many sci-fi survival and crafting games available, Blind Descent really shines thanks to its beautiful art style and stunning environments. After crash-landing on a vibrant alien planet teeming with unique plants, creatures, and wildlife, you’ll need to understand the local ecosystem and use it to survive.

While the game involves building and staying alive, it’s also a mystery, reminiscent of the underwater world of Subnautica and the fantastical landscapes of Clark Ashton Smith. Don’t let the beautiful scenery fool you – something unsettling hides beneath the surface, and it’s up to you to uncover it.

7. Solasta 2

One for the Fantasy Crowd

It feels like games based on tabletop RPGs are consistently excellent, and Solasta 2 looks to be no exception. Building on the first game’s success, this fantasy RPG is a must-try for fans of turn-based tactical combat. The story unfolds in the world of Neokos, a decade after the events of the original, but you can still enjoy it even if you haven’t played the first one.

If you enjoy games like Baldur’s Gate 3 or the original Dragon Age, you’ll likely love this one. It’s built around player choice, just like many games based on Dungeons & Dragons rules – your decisions really matter and impact both your character and the game’s world. The game is currently available in early access, so you can start playing and experience it before the full version is released.

6. Light No Fire

Medieval Man’s Sky

Following the release of their large-scale game No Man’s Sky, Hello Games is now working on a new fantasy MMO called Light No Fire. Like their previous project, it’s incredibly ambitious, offering players a vast, living planet to discover and explore. Instead of spaceships, players will use magic, and the game appears to be a true ‘Massively Multiplayer Online’ experience.

No Man’s Sky had a rough start, but the developers have worked hard to make it much better. The latest version lets you build things, train creatures, and personalize your character. A big improvement is that you‘ll likely encounter other players much more often than in the original game.

5. Clockwork Revolution

Political Steampunk Action

Clockwork Revolution, a steampunk RPG developed by inXile Entertainment (the creators of the Wasteland series), is a highly anticipated game slated for release in 2026. It promises a sprawling city to discover, filled with different political groups and strange, inventive technology.

This game stands out from similar titles because your choices actually seem to alter the world around you. With time travel being a key part of the story, players can affect events and results in different time periods. I’m especially looking forward to this game, as I’m a big fan of BioShock Infinite.

4. The Blood of the Dawnwalker

A Gothic Vampire Adventure

Okay, so everyone’s buzzing about this new vampire game, The Blood of the Dawnwalker. It’s being made by some of the people who used to work on The Witcher, which already has my attention! From what I’ve seen, it’s going to be a fast-paced action game with a really detailed world, and you play as a half-human, half-vampire. Sounds awesome, right?

This game delivers the intense, action-packed combat players will recognize from The Witcher series. Like those games, it stars a character with magical powers and takes place in a world rooted in the myths and legends of Eastern Europe. Be warned, though – it’s a dark and violent experience, full of gore and horror as you’d expect from this type of game.

3. Gothic 1 Remake

Reimagining an Old Classic

The Gothic 1 Remake is highly anticipated, and rightfully so. Fans remember the original as one of the best fantasy RPGs ever made, often comparing it to early games in the Witcher and Elder Scrolls series. After a 20-year break, the series is being revived with a new team, and the first trailers look very encouraging.

Beyond the incredible freedom they offered, the Gothic games were celebrated for their immersive world, memorable characters, and well-crafted quests. It feels like a clear opportunity, and if Piranha Bytes and THQ Nordic can recapture even 80% of what made the original games special, the new project is likely to be a hit.

2. The Expanse: Osiris Reborn

Expanding the Universe

Building on the story established in the Telltale game, The Expanse: Osiris Reborn aims to offer a more free-roaming and less predictable experience within the same science fiction world. Inspired by the novels of James S. A. Corey, The Expanse is set among spaceships and colonies, but stays realistic in its approach to scientific details.

Unlike the first game, which focused on choices and story, this sequel appears to be a much larger and more comprehensive experience. It’s shaping up to be a full-fledged RPG with more action-packed gameplay and greater freedom, while still letting player decisions drive the story.

1. Subnautica 2

Bigger, Darker, and Deeper

Even though development has had its challenges, it looks like Subnautica 2, the sequel to the popular underwater exploration game, could be released in 2026. The game will once again take players to the depths of the ocean, filled with strange and wonderful alien creatures, and aims to deliver the same exciting and sometimes frightening adventure as the original Subnautica.

I’m really excited about this game because it lets me explore a huge underwater world at my own speed and dig up all sorts of cool sci-fi secrets. But it’s not just exploration – I can actually build up a whole base and kind of live a second life down there, which is awesome! The developers have definitely raised the stakes with this installment, and I’m hoping the final release lives up to the hype. It’s got a lot to live up to, honestly.
