We’re completely hooked on Pragmata! This new game from Capcom follows the success of Resident Evil Requiem and gives the team another major franchise to develop.

If you loved the connection between Hugh and Diana in the game but feel like you’ve explored everything it has to offer, it’s probably time to find a new experience.

Instead of looking for games that feel like Pragmata in terms of gameplay, we focused on finding games with similar themes. Specifically, we searched for stories that explore the strong connection between a parent and child, or put you in the position of a protector.

A Tale of Two Sons, known as Brothers, offers a heartwarming experience similar to the story of Hugh and Diana, but with a different perspective. This time, you control two brothers who travel through a magical world, determined to find a way to heal their sick father.

Throughout the game, you’ll see heartwarming scenes of the brothers supporting and shielding each other. What makes it special is the way you play – you control both brothers at the same time, creating a unique team-based experience.

The first season centers around Lee Everett, an ex-convict who survives a zombie attack after his police transport crashes. He then encounters Clementine, a young girl who gives him a chance to find purpose in a world overrun by the undead.

The first season is famous for its emotionally powerful story, and viewers have really connected with the developing relationship between Lee and Clementine.

8. Resident Evil: Revelations 2

Barry is Back

Barry Burton is a beloved, fatherly figure in the Resident Evil series, appearing in the games since the very start. He takes center stage in Resident Evil Revelations 2, driven by a desperate search for his missing daughter and a mission to save another young girl.

The game begins with Claire Redfield and Moira Burton, Barry Burton’s daughter, finding themselves stranded on an island ruled by Alex Wesker. After Claire escapes and Moira goes missing, Barry embarks on a journey to find and rescue her.

Throughout his travels, Barry meets Natalia and becomes her protector. At the same time, he bravely risks everything to rescue his daughter from Alex Wesker, proving just how devoted he is to his family.

7. Bioshock

If you’re looking for a game where you feel like a hero, check out Bioshock. You start after a plane crash and discover Rapture, a huge city built underwater.

Throughout the game, you’ll encounter bizarre and unsettling things, including the Big Daddies and Little Sisters. As you play, you’ll find many Little Sisters and have the choice to either rescue them or exploit them for your own gain.

Choosing to rescue the Little Sisters leads to the best outcome in BioShock: you and the girls successfully escape Rapture and go on to live normal lives.

6. A Plague Tale: Innocence

Protect Your Little Brother

In A Plague Tale, you don’t play a father figure, but rather Amicia De Rune, an older sister looking after her brother, Hugo. While you don’t fill a traditional parental role, you are still responsible for protecting and caring for someone vulnerable.

This story centers on two characters struggling to survive a deadly plague and the overwhelming rat infestations that come with it. They’re constantly hunted by the Inquisition, who are determined to capture Hugo, so your job is to keep him safe.

The A Plague Tale series currently has two games: A Plague Tale: Innocence and A Plague Tale: Requiem. Both games are highly praised for their moving portrayal of the relationship between a parent and child.

5. Death Stranding

Death Stranding is a truly unique game released in the last ten years. Players take on the role of a porter, responsible for delivering essential supplies throughout a broken, post-apocalyptic world.

During your adventure, you’ll receive a ‘Bridge Baby’ – a companion who lets you detect nearby threats. Though it’s an unusual role for a parent, you’ll still form a bond with this child, and they’ll help you along the way.

The game’s science fiction backdrop evokes a similar feel to Pragmata, letting players experience a comparable world, despite some unusual family dynamics.

4. Fallout 4

Your Son is Out There

Bethesda often includes family storylines in its Fallout games. But in Fallout 4, players get to directly decide if they’ll play as the mother or father of a baby named Shaun.

Okay, so the story starts with everything going completely crazy – bombs are falling, it’s total chaos. My spouse and I desperately try to protect our child, and we end up put into these cryo chambers, hoping to survive. But then, the worst thing happens. While we’re frozen, someone takes our child! I actually woke up for a moment while still in the chamber and saw it all – the kidnapper shooting my spouse and running off with our kid. It was horrifying, and I’ve been living with that image ever since.

You awaken, prepared to travel the dangerous wasteland in search of your son. It’s a story about the powerful connection between a parent and child, but with a twist – your choices will drastically impact the world around you.

3. The Witch 3: Wild Hunt

Geralt of Rivia is a hugely popular character in the gaming world. He’s starred in three Witcher games, each of which has gained a large and dedicated following. The third game was particularly successful, attracting a wide audience with its expansive open world, enjoyable combat system, and compelling story.

Games had explored parent-like relationships before, but The Last of Us really popularized the idea of “dad games.” The story centers on Joel and a devastating outbreak that plunges the world into a post-apocalyptic state.

Joel and Ellie form a close emotional connection, and Joel begins to see Ellie as a replacement for the daughter he lost earlier in the story. This father-daughter dynamic is at the heart of what makes Pragmata so compelling.

Though the connection between Joel and Ellie isn’t as intensely emotional in this second installment, they remain a pair, and Joel continues to act as a protective father figure, doing everything he can to keep Ellie safe.
