YouTube recently removed a large number of channels creating low-quality, AI-generated content, often referred to as “AI slop.” This included some of the most-viewed channels of this type.
AI-created content is appearing across platforms like Spotify, TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. This is causing particular problems on YouTube, where creators can avoid labeling AI-generated videos as such, bypassing the platform’s warning system.
Everyone’s been complaining about all this low-effort AI-generated content flooding YouTube – people are calling it “AI slop.” Well, YouTube’s CEO, Neal Mohan, just said they’re finally going to do something about it, and they’re planning a major push to deal with it in 2026. It’s good to hear they’re listening, but 2026 feels like a long wait!
We’re expanding our existing tools – the ones that already effectively fight spam, clickbait, and repetitive content – to also tackle the growing problem of poor-quality AI-generated content, Mohan said.
YouTube cracks down on popular AI channels
YouTube appears to be taking action against AI-generated content, with reports from Kapwing indicating that 16 prominent AI channels have been affected.
New research shows that 11 YouTube channels have been completely deleted, and another five have had all their videos removed. These channels together had amassed 4.72 billion views and 35 million subscribers.
Two leading AI-focused channels, CuentosFacianantes and Imperiodejesus, are no longer available, having been deleted. The channel brainrotjourney, which was very popular with over 1.6 million subscribers, has also been taken down.

According to Kapwing’s Liam Curtis, YouTube’s recent actions against AI-generated content might signal a major shift in how the platform handles it. He suggests that without this intervention, AI content risked overwhelming and overshadowing original creators.
I’m really hoping this is just the start of something big! It seems like YouTube now has to keep this energy going and, more importantly, fix the problems that let these problematic channels get so popular in the first place.
Leading up to his 2026 presentation, Mohan stated that artificial intelligence is here to stay, particularly in the realm of content moderation. This comment led online personality MoistCr1TiKaL to publicly criticize Mohan, calling his views on AI unrealistic.
