Microsoft has teamed up with LG to make Xbox Cloud Gaming available in certain internet-equipped vehicles. With the help of LG’s webOS Automotive platform, passengers can stream and play games straight from the Xbox app without needing a console. To gain access to their gaming library, users will need an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription and an automotive data plan. Microsoft promises that this partnership will grant players immediate access to numerous games through Game Pass.
The recently released video demonstrates its functionality clearly, primarily focusing on passengers at the back playing games, assuring spectators that the collaboration won’t result in real-life scenarios reminiscent of Forza Horizon, for the driver seated upfront.
It’s not surprising that Microsoft is extending its cloud gaming initiative to cars since their 2025 marketing for the gaming brand emphasizes that an Xbox console isn’t necessary to play Xbox games. The main slogan for this campaign, “This Is Your Xbox,” suggests that the Xbox experience can be accessed through multiple devices.
Jason Ronald, Vice President of Next Generation at Xbox, recently discussed Microsoft’s strategy for their upcoming next-gen console. He highlighted that the company aims to provide players with the flexibility to enjoy games even when they are on the move, allowing seamless continuation of gameplay using specialized hardware. In essence, the design and development of the platform revolve around understanding how gamers currently prefer to play and catering to their needs.
As an enthusiast, I find that although a LG car boasting internet capabilities and multiple screens might be pricier than an Xbox console, it certainly makes the upcoming ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X mobile gaming PCs seem more affordable by comparison. Scheduled to hit the market on October 16th, details regarding their pricing remain undisclosed for now, but whispers suggest that the costliest device might set you back up to $900.
