Microsoft is not only ending the ability to use reward points towards Xbox Game Pass subscriptions, but they are also increasing the price of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, framing it as “evolving” the service.
As it turns out, they’re not done with further muddying the Xbox brand this week.
If you appreciate both the free games and the extra benefits included with the subscription, it looks like Microsoft has quietly removed one feature.
Xbox Game Pass Discounts Took A Massive Blow

Previously, Game Pass subscribers received a 10% discount on DLC and add-ons – a helpful perk, especially for substantial story expansions. However, that benefit is now removed. For instance, The Order of the Giants DLC for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is now sold at its full price, even if you already have a Game Pass subscription.
The space RPG Starfield, from Bethesda, is also impacted. Its Shattered Space expansion is now sold at full price. Previously, Game Pass subscribers received a 10% discount on it, just like the expansion for Indiana Jones.
As Pure Xbox noticed, the discount on downloadable content (DLC) now appears to be part of the Xbox Rewards program.
Microsoft’s explanation of the Game Pass DLC discount is a bit unclear. They say, “With our upgraded Rewards program, players can get up to 30 percent value on select Game Pass games, with 4x points on purchases of games and add-ons, 10 percent back in points on select Game Pass library titles and add-ons, and up to 20 percent off select Game Pass games.”
It sounds like members are getting a better deal, but they aren’t?! At least not to me.
This discount isn’t limited to just DLC and add-ons; even major franchises like Call of Duty are impacted. Previously, Game Pass subscribers received discounts on COD Points. However, with the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 approaching, this perk has been removed. Now, Game Pass members will have to pay full price for COD Points, just like everyone else.
I really hope this is the last piece of tough news for Xbox gamers this week. Honestly, I don’t think they can handle much more of this rollercoaster of emotions! It’s been a lot lately, and they deserve a break. I’m praying for better news soon.
