Xbox is going to “reevaluate” exclusive games and AI

So, things are really changing over at Xbox! The new leadership is already making moves, and they’ve said they’re going to seriously re-evaluate how they handle exclusive games and even explore how they can use AI. It sounds like they’re really thinking about the future, which is cool.

In a blog post on Xbox Wire, which also announced the rebranding of Microsoft Gaming into simply “Xbox,” Chief Content Officer Matt Booty and CEO Asha Sharma outlined their plans for the platform.

Their main focus is now on attracting and keeping daily players. To do this, they plan to strengthen the Game Pass service, continue investing in popular game franchises, and make the next Xbox the best place to play.

Xbox also announced it’s taking a step back to rethink its overall plan. According to a recent post, they’ll be looking closely at how they handle exclusive games, release timing, and the use of artificial intelligence, and will share updates as they make decisions.

They didn’t provide many details, but it seems like they’re rethinking their plan to release certain Xbox games on platforms other than Xbox at the same time.

Xbox bosses admit “players are frustrated”

In the same announcement, Booty and Sharma acknowledged that players and developers were both becoming increasingly dissatisfied with the path Xbox was taking.

We’ve been releasing fewer new features for consoles lately, and we need to improve our presence on PC. It’s also becoming difficult for players to afford our games. At the same time, developers and publishers are requesting more advanced tools, better data analysis, and a platform that will help them expand their businesses more quickly.

Today’s gamers have different priorities than previous generations. They split their time between many games and other forms of entertainment, making it harder to capture their attention. At the same time, creating high-quality games is becoming more expensive and time-consuming, which affects the types of games developers are willing to make and the risks they’re willing to take.

The gaming industry is changing rapidly and becoming more competitive worldwide, so companies recognize that their current approach won’t be enough for future success.

This change follows Asha Sharma’s appointment as Xbox CEO in February. Since then, she’s lowered the price of Game Pass and decided not to release new Call of Duty games on the service immediately when they come out.
