It’s surprising to see Wuchang: Fallen Feather hasn’t been more successful. The game offered a fresh take on the familiar Soulslike style and was a good entry in the genre – we really enjoyed it! Unfortunately, it didn’t perform well enough to prevent some difficulties for its developer, Leenzee.
Unconfirmed reports suggest the team behind the game may have been laid off due to disappointing initial reception. Gamersky reports that producer and director Xia Siyuan is among those let go and has already started a new company, while other employees are allegedly facing unpaid wages and potential legal issues. This follows significant controversy surrounding the game’s release, which was largely criticized for its poor performance.
There was reportedly a good amount of extra content planned for Wuchang that could have boosted its popularity, but it might not be used now that the development team has moved on. It’s unfortunate, because many players, including myself, would have enjoyed returning to the game to face new challenges and experience more beautiful environments.
