Okay, so I’ve been watching horror and action for a while now, and it’s crazy to think the Saw movies have been around for over 20 years! John Wick is already over 10 years in, and we might even get a fifth movie! Saw has become a huge thing – I mean, there’s merch everywhere, they’ve had a haunted house based on it at Halloween Horror Nights, and even a couple of video games way back when. Wick hasn’t quite reached that level of crossover popularity, although both Wick and Jigsaw’s puppet showed up in Fortnite, which was cool. But now Lionsgate is looking to bring both of these franchises to a new generation of gamers with new video games. I’m definitely excited about that!
During a recent earnings discussion, Lionsgate’s Adam Fogelson stated that the company is seeing more opportunities to develop high-quality video games based on its popular movies and franchises. He specifically highlighted the John Wick and Saw series as potential game adaptations.
As a huge fan, I was really excited to hear that Lionsgate is getting a lot more attention for potential AAA games based on properties like John Wick and Saw – and they’ve hinted at even more announcements coming! They said they’re on track with everything, and honestly, it sounds like these games could be a really big win for the company financially in the next few years. It’s great news for us as fans, too, because it means more immersive experiences in worlds we already love!
In 2023, Lionsgate revealed they were exploring the possibility of turning the John Wick movies into a video game. Joe Drake, president of Lionsgate, mentioned ongoing discussions about bringing the Keanu Reeves franchise to the gaming world and noted a lot of excitement around the idea. However, those plans didn’t materialize. Instead, the John Wick universe grew with the spin-off movie Ballerina and the prequel series The Continental.
The first two Saw games weren’t popular with players, but hopefully the third installment will be better. Lionsgate also tried making a game based on Blair Witch, and that didn’t fare much better.
