Following the large September 2.0 update, Wargaming is planning more improvements for World of Tanks. The team has revealed that update 2.1.1 will arrive around mid-January 2026, adding new Tier XI tanks to the game.
The latest update is designed to make the game even more exciting. It introduces two new powerful vehicles (tier XI), a new series of American medium tanks, and adjustments to balance gameplay for the most advanced machines. You can see the update in action in the trailer below.
Two new tier XI machines
The PTZ-78, a Chinese destroyer, has been unveiled as the first of its kind to feature solid-fuel boosters. The manufacturers say these boosters enhance both speed and handling, allowing the ship to accelerate quickly, change direction easily, and even make sharp turns during battle.
We’re also adding the STK-2, a powerful Japanese heavy tank. It features an improved cooling system for its gun that automatically resets after each shot, preventing overheating and maintaining accuracy. This new feature will give you more control and flexibility in combat.
New American line with revolutionary mechanics
Update 2.1.1 introduces a new line of American medium tanks to the game. Players can now unlock and play these tanks, beginning with the T20 at tier VII and progressing to the Ares 90 C at tier XI.
The highlight is the new automatic gun, which features a system to prevent overheating. Unlike previous models, it doesn’t have fixed delays between shots, but firing it too rapidly will reduce accuracy. If the gun gets too hot, it will temporarily lock up until it cools down. The vehicles themselves will be more maneuverable during combat thanks to a new track system, similar to those found on the Yoh series.
Balance changes
The Wargaming team also revealed that they’re planning some changes to certain Tier XI tanks. These updates will affect tanks such as:
- Leopard 120 Verbessert;
- AS-XX 40 t;
- Object 432U;
- Hirschkäfer;
- CS-67 Szakal;
- Strv 107-12.
These updates aim to improve the game’s fun factor, ensure machines are well-balanced, and give them clearer purposes during combat.
