I just heard this crazy story! Apparently, a woman in Minnesota was found guilty of three crimes because she actually threw a tarantula at someone staying at her Airbnb! Can you believe that? It’s wild!
In June 2024, Marisa Simonetti, a 32-year-old running for U.S. Senate in Minnesota, rented a basement apartment to a woman preparing for the bar exam.
Jacklyn Vasquez, a guest at the property, apparently requested pest control services after spotting what she believed were large spiders.
Dispute escalates into series of incidents
Things got really tense after that talk, and I read on KSTP that Simonetti actually stopped the guest’s grocery delivery and wouldn’t give it to them! Can you believe that?
The next day, she reportedly cut off the internet and started making a lot of noise with pots and pans while the guest was trying to study.
Vasquez called 911 after Simonetti broke down the basement door and went inside with another man. She hid in her room and used her laptop to record what was happening.
The footage can be seen in this video below. Relevant segment begins at 0:30.
According to KSTP, audio from the incident captured Simonetti mentioning Jesus and a newly purchased tarantula.
The video showed Marisa Simonetti throwing a tarantula down the stairs and spraying something onto it, while declaring, “Don’t mess with me.”
Officers detected a bad smell at the top of the staircase and discovered a disturbing scene: pins, tacks, nails, a live tarantula, the remnants of a terrarium scattered down the steps, and a collection of small toys, as detailed in the official report.
Simonetti, acting as her own lawyer in court, told the judge the person she harmed was illegally living on her property and that she was protecting herself.
She was convicted of harassment, domestic assault, and disturbing the peace – all considered less serious crimes.
