Woman dies after being thrown from jump platform with no safety rope

Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas, a 21-year-old fitness instructor from Jandira, São Paulo, tragically died while rope jumping near Limeira. She fell about 130 feet into a ravine below the Skeleton Bridge during an event organized by the extreme sports companies Entre Cordas and Ih Voei.

I just read something really disturbing – apparently, police reports show that the safety rope wasn’t even connected when the performer went out on the platform! It’s hard to believe something like that could happen.

People watching quickly understood something had gone wrong as soon as she started to fall, and witnesses were heard yelling about checking the rope.

Emergency services attended the scene, but de Freitas was pronounced dead from multiple injuries.

Six arrested as homicide investigation launched

I read that the authorities are investigating this as a homicide, but it’s a bit complicated. Apparently, Brazilian law has this thing called ‘dolo eventual,’ and it basically means they don’t think the person intended to kill anyone, but they absolutely knew their actions could lead to someone dying and didn’t care. It’s like they accepted the risk of a fatal outcome, which is enough to classify it as a homicide according to Veja.

Police arrested six people after the event. The two believed to have caused it initially ran away and hid in bushes, but authorities used a military helicopter to find them.

Three of the six people initially detained have been released. The remaining three – aged 47, 32, and 27 – are still being investigated.

The Instagram accounts for Entre Cordas Oficial and Ih Voei are currently unavailable and display an error message. CNN Brasil reports that Entre Cordas Oficial had approximately 80,000 followers before the account was removed.
