Why isn’t Brooke Hogan in Hulk Hogan: Real American? Netflix documentary explained

Netflix has released a new four-part documentary about Hulk Hogan called ‘Real American,’ but his daughter, Brooke, isn’t featured in it. She’s now sharing the reason why she chose not to participate.

Hulk Hogan rose to fame as a wrestling superstar in the 1980s. A brief appearance in the movie Rocky III helped launch his career, and he became even more popular by portraying a classic American hero.

Later in his career, Hulk Hogan faced significant controversy. This included racist comments he made and the release of a sex tape, which led to a legal battle that ultimately resulted in the closure of Gawker.

The new Netflix documentary about Hulk Hogan, titled ‘Hulk Hogan: Real American,’ chronicles his career highs and lows. Notably, his daughter Brooke does not appear in the film – here’s the reason behind that decision.

Why Brooke Hogan refused to be part of Hulk Hogan doc

In addition to being a professional wrestler, Hulk Hogan found success on television with his VH1 reality show, Hogan Knows Best, which aired from 2005 to 2007.

The show followed Hulk Hogan – whose real name is Terry Bollea – as he balanced his family life with his wife, Linda, and children Nick and Brooke. Brooke was also pursuing a career in music during this time.

Recently, Brooke and her father grew distant due to her disapproval of his friends, as she shared with US Weekly. This led to Brooke being excluded from his will, and his $5 million estate ultimately went to her brother, Nick, when he passed away in 2025.

Their strained relationship was a major reason she decided not to participate in the documentary. Brooke explained to Page Six that she expected her father, if he were making a film, would personally reach out to people he knew and ask them to contribute, like he would with someone named Linda or Nick. She felt he hadn’t done that in her case.

Whether people have criticized or admired my dad, they all react differently when he offers them a chance to be on TV. Suddenly, their attitude changes.

She explained that things changed quickly, and suddenly everyone was supporting ‘Team Hogan.’ She didn’t want to be involved because she’d seen those people change their loyalties before and didn’t want to associate with them.

The Hulk Hogan documentary, Real American, is now available on Netflix. You can find our top picks for new documentary films this month here.
