Where to Find and Use Sulfur in Subnautica 2

To survive in Subnautica 2, crafting is essential. You don’t need to focus on collecting Sulfur right away; your initial priority should be building and equipping your habitat to ensure your survival. Later in the game, though, you’ll need Sulfur to create more complex items.

Sulfur is a bit different from other resources. While you’ll find Titanium and Copper scattered around the map and important scanning items within shipwrecks, Sulfur is located in a more isolated spot, away from the main areas you’ll be exploring.

Where to Find Sulfur

To find Sulfur, swim about 260 meters southeast from your Lifepod. Unlike most resources, it’s usually found on top of the rock formations, not on the ground or in caves. Keep an eye out for yellow crystals, as the Sulfur tends to blend in with the surrounding rocks and can be hard to see.

Collecting Sulfur can be tricky. Most of the Sulfur deposits are quite large and require a Sonic Resonator to harvest. If you don’t have one, you’ll need to look for smaller deposits that you can gather without it. These smaller deposits are rare, but they’re available, allowing you to collect some Sulfur to bring back to your base.

Recipes Using Sulfur

Okay, so if you’re trying to craft the Repair Tool, you’re gonna need Sulfur. Here’s everything you need to gather:

  • 1 Titanium Ingot
  • 1 Wiring Kit
  • 1 Basic Battery
  • 1 Sulfur

Sulfur is also used in crafting other items, like the Advanced Wiring Kit (which needs one Sulfur) and a different way to make Strong Acid. This alternate Strong Acid recipe uses one Sulfur and one Gold instead of the typical Necrolei Cyst.

Although you can use Sulfur to make Strong Acid, Necrolei Cysts are a better choice. They’re much more common, and you don’t need a Sonic Resonator to collect a good amount of them – which is required for Sulfur. Plus, you can grow Necrolei Cysts in a Growbed, giving you a reliable, continuous source of both the Cysts and the Strong Acid they create.

Next, you’ll want to build the Repair Tool and explore the bigger shipwrecks to find the blueprints for the Rebreather. While it’s not urgent, getting the Rebreather will make underwater exploration much easier, as it extends how long you can stay underwater in Subnautica 2. It’s a valuable piece of equipment, so don’t delay building it for too long.
