People were buzzing during Sunday night’s NFL AFC Championship game (the Patriots won and are heading to the Super Bowl!). A new trailer for Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, The Odyssey, debuted during the commercial breaks and quickly went viral. The trailer centers on Telemachus (played by Tom Holland) as he searches for information about his father, Odysseus (Matt Damon). Interestingly, Travis Scott appears as the bard of Menelaus (Jon Bernthal). This casting feels appropriate, considering that poems like The Odyssey were originally performed as sung-spoken word pieces.
Nolan’s appreciation for Travis Scott goes back at least to his film Tenet. Scott contributed a song to the movie’s soundtrack and collaborated with Ludwig Göransson on the overall musical direction. Nolan told GQ in 2020 that Scott’s contribution was the final element after a year of work. However, if you’re hoping to see Scott’s interpretation of The Odyssey, you might have to be patient. Leaked trailers for the TV series are being quickly taken down due to copyright claims – even faster than Odysseus eliminates the suitors vying for Penelope’s hand, and that’s saying something!
