What to know (or what to laugh at?):
- Admiral Samuel Paparo, the U.S. military’s very own crypto enthusiast, casually dropped that they’re running a Bitcoin node. Because why not spy on decentralized money while sipping coffee?
- Apparently, they’re not mining Bitcoin-just “monitoring” and “testing.” Sure, Jan. Totally not trying to flex on China with blockchain wizardry.
- Bitcoin, the rebel without a cause, was supposed to resist government control. But here’s Uncle Sam, sliding into the peer-to-peer network like it’s a Tinder match.
So, a four-star admiral just admitted the U.S. military is playing blockchain bingo. Admiral Paparo, head of U.S.-Indo-Pacific Command (aka the folks keeping an eye on China), told Congress they’re running a Bitcoin node for “national security.” Because nothing says “power projection” like a government snooping on decentralized currency. Iconic.
At a House hearing, Paparo spilled the beans: “We have a node on the Bitcoin network right now. We’re not mining-just watching and testing.” Oh, just watching? Like a creepy neighbor peeking through the blinds? Got it.
A Bitcoin node, for the uninitiated, is basically a computer that keeps the blockchain’s history and follows its rules. No rewards, no fancy hardware-just pure, unadulterated snooping. And the U.S. military has one. Out of 15,000+ nodes, theirs is the one that screams, “I’m here to protect you… from yourself.”
Sure, one node can’t control Bitcoin. But the irony? Bitcoin was born to resist governments, and now the Pentagon’s like, “Hold my beer.” Especially since INDOPACOM’s whole job is to outsmart China. Coincidence? I think not.
