Okay, so this is HUGE news for gamers! Neuralink just announced their first patient in the UK, and it’s incredible – this guy, Paul, might be able to play video games again! Seriously, just hours after surgery, he was controlling a computer with his thoughts. He’s been paralyzed from motor neuron disease, and Neuralink is giving him a chance to get back into gaming – he’s hoping to play Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War, which is awesome. It’s amazing to think about the possibilities this opens up!
First UK Neuralink participant is exploring playing video games again
A recent social media post shows Paul using a laptop while doctors observe with smiles, suggesting the procedure was successful. Although the original post didn’t mention gaming, Neuralink responded, playfully noting Paul’s priorities. They revealed he’s working with their engineers to try playing video games – specifically, Dawn of War – using the implant. The post included a short gameplay clip, but it’s unclear if it was recorded by Paul himself or is just a demonstration.
I was reading PC Mag the other day and learned that 12 people now have the Neuralink implant! And since that article came out in September, it sounds like they might already be up to thirteen people – that’s amazing! Basically, this implant is supposed to let people control computers just by thinking, which honestly feels like something straight out of a sci-fi film. According to Neuralink’s website, they’re focusing on helping people with spinal cord injuries or ALS, which is incredible. But let’s be real, it’s still super early days for this project, so we’ll have to wait and see how it all develops. Don’t get me wrong, the idea of controlling games with your mind is cool, but we’re definitely not there yet!
We need to discuss the future of this technology, particularly considering the co-founder’s recent influence on U.S. policy and their strong interest in AI. However, despite those concerns, this is a genuinely uplifting story. Everyone deserves the chance to enjoy video games, and this example highlights how rewarding they can be. It’s difficult to imagine not being able to play, which is why making games accessible to everyone, even in this remarkable way, is wonderful.
