Ubisoft has officially revealed Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, a complete remake of the popular pirate adventure, built with the Anvil Engine. The game arrives on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on July 9th, following months of speculation and early information leaks.
In a nearly 30-minute video, Matt Ryan, who plays Edward Kenway, discusses the upcoming remake with the team at Resynced, detailing all the improvements and changes. You can watch the full video here.
Game Director Richard Knight explains that their goal from the beginning was to create a truly improved version of the game while staying true to what players already enjoy. They’ve completely rebuilt the game using the latest Anvil Engine, meaning players can expect dramatically updated graphics, expanded content to make the world feel richer, and better gameplay whether you’re exploring on foot or sailing the seas.
This update adds a lot of fresh content to the game. You’ll find three new officers to recruit for your ship, The Jackdaw – Lucy Baldwin, The Padre, and Deadman Smith – each with their own unique story missions. The game’s modern-day storyline has also been completely revamped.
The combat system has been revamped to feel faster and more dynamic, with additions like a grappling hook allowing Kenway to quickly pull enemies closer. Movement has also been improved, especially parkour, which now feels more modern and responsive – you can now quickly jump backwards or sideways while climbing. A dedicated crouch and stealth button is a particularly significant addition, allowing for more focused stealth gameplay.
Resynced won’t feature any of the original Black Flag’s multiplayer modes or downloadable content, like the ‘Freedom Cry’ story featuring Adewale. Ubisoft explains this decision is to ensure a focused, single-player experience that stays true to the original Black Flag game.
Ubisoft revealed a special Collector’s Edition of Resynced, along with the game’s PC system requirements. Priced at $199.99, this edition features a new statue of Edward Kenway, a notebook filled with entries from his diary, a decorative brooch, a cloth map, and other collectible items.
