As a lifelong movie and TV buff, I have to say, hearing Tyra Banks promise more drama for Cycle 25 of America’s Next Top Model genuinely worried me. Considering past seasons threw everything at the contestants – from racially insensitive challenges to simulated overdoses, homelessness, and even hypothermia – what could possibly be next? Was she hinting at finally focusing on actual modeling skills, the kind that would actually build a portfolio? I doubt it, but with the new Netflix docu-series, Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model, dropping on February 16th, it seems Banks is gearing up to guide a fresh wave of aspiring models. Honestly, I’m both intrigued and a little scared.
Tyra Banks has been considering bringing back Top Model since at least 2020, though a new season hasn’t been officially confirmed. She’s said that it’s the question she’s asked most often – people want to know what happened to the show she created. Banks told Haute Living in 2020 that they were exploring ways to make it work, and she’s expressed similar thoughts in other interviews. America’s Next Top Model originally aired from 2003 to 2018, lasting 24 seasons. The new docuseries about the show might reignite interest in a revival, or it could serve as a reminder that revisiting that time period isn’t necessary.
