Twitch viewers can preview a game directly in their browser

Amazon is experimenting with a new feature that would allow people to play games instantly through Twitch, right in their web browser.

Twitch is a hugely popular platform, and gaming has always been its main focus. Until recently, most of the activity on Twitch involved watching other people play games. But that could be changing soon.

Amazon is testing a new feature called Gamelift, which includes a 20-minute playable demo of the horror-adventure game ReAnimal, released earlier in 2024.

Currently, the test is limited to users in the US and Canada who are accessing the web version on their computers, according to the information we have.

“Gamelift” lets you play a game directly through Twitch

GameSpot highlighted a report from Zach Bussy on X (formerly Twitter). Bussy observed that the game ReAnimal appears to be the first being tested, potentially indicating it utilizes cloud access.

Amazon is trying out a new feature that lets people play games directly through Twitch. Currently being tested in the US and Canada on desktop web browsers, ‘Game Lift’ allows users to try a 20-minute demo of the game ReAnimal.

He didn’t need to download a demo from Steam; he could play it directly in his web browser using a link from Twitch.

Once the page loads, you’re given two options: ‘Buy Now on Steam’ or ‘Start the Demo.’

When you start the demo, the game launches just like the full version, but with a timer in the upper-right corner that counts down your remaining playtime.

Once you’re done playing, you can also click another button to go straight to the game’s Steam page.

Zach explained in his post that he was directly informed this feature was created by Amazon and designed mainly to be used for advertising.

As of right now, we don’t know when this feature will be available in other areas, or if more games will be added later on.

So far, some users in the comments think it might have potential if done right.
