Destiny faced a confusing series of events on Twitch: he was unbanned after being suspended for over four years, only to be banned again shortly after. This led Twitch CEO Dan Clancy to address the situation publicly.
In 2022, Twitch permanently banned Steven Bonnel, known as ‘Destiny,’ after he broke their rules against hateful behavior.
Twitch has reinstated many streamers who were previously permanently banned, such as Adin Ross and JiDion, but they haven’t lifted the ban for Destiny despite his requests.
The streaming community was surprised on May 21st when Destiny’s Twitch channel was briefly unbanned, but it was then banned again quickly after.
Amid the confusion, Dan Clancy addressed the matter, explaining that it was all a big mistake.
Twitch CEO says unbanning Destiny was an “error”
During a live broadcast on his channel, Clancy stated that a staff member mistakenly believed Destiny shouldn’t be allowed to return.
He explained that the issue was spotted and fixed rapidly. He emphasized that it’s important to remember people are behind the work, and mistakes happen. Fortunately, the team was able to identify it quickly.
Clancy explained the ban was lifted by mistake and apologized to viewers for the confusion.
Destiny claimed that Hasan, another streamer, was in contact with someone connected to the controversial figure, Clancy, or his representative, and asked for Hasan to be banned from the platform. Destiny plans to request a review of the ban in six months to see if the decision can be reversed.
It doesn’t really take a genius to figure out what happened here 🙂

Bonnel received a four-year ban after he replied to a viewer who praised his debates and asked that they not be canceled.
Destiny stated he didn’t believe interacting with that online community was worthwhile. He felt the potential consequences – including a permanent ban and significant personal disruption – were too high a price to pay, and he considered the people involved deeply unpleasant.
It’s unusual for Twitch to publicly address a creator’s ban, but the CEO recently spoke out regarding Destiny’s suspension. Typically, Twitch doesn’t comment on individual user cases.
