Rescuers in Australia used a rope to save a woman who became trapped when a toilet trench she was in collapsed, creating a significant mess.
When you’re traveling, deciding when to use the restroom can be difficult. You have to weigh holding it against potentially delaying your trip. But sometimes, you simply have to go, no matter what else is happening.
While driving back to Canberra, Australia, a woman stopped to use a simple outdoor toilet in the remote Outback.
According to News AU, the ground gave way beneath her, causing the pit she was standing in to collapse and trap her up to her waist.
Woman stuck in “deep s*it” after toilet collapse
The report states that while the woman’s husband and children were driving to find help, she actually received it from a tradesman who happened to be visiting the location with a friend.
According to officials in the Northern Territory, the woman had been stuck in sewage for about three hours, and rescuers needed a rope to pull her out. The septic tank was located roughly 90 miles from the nearest town, so while the three-hour wait was significant, it could have been much longer.
Adding to the unpleasantness, a social media post described the situation, stating: “The woman was trapped up to her waist in sewage. There was human waste, including diapers and urine, in the hole with her.”
Officials are investigating why the toilet collapsed, calling it a risky situation for the woman involved.
One Facebook post described the horrifying situation of being stuck waist-deep in human waste in the hole shown in the picture, and having to wait four hours for rescue. It’s a scene you definitely wouldn’t find in any travel advertisement.
