Iko Uwais, the star of The Raid and a fantastic action movie performer, combines intense martial arts with a true story of war and rescue in the trailer for his new film, Timur. Frustrated with waiting for the right role in Hollywood, Uwais has started his own production company, Uwais Pictures, and Timur will be his first time directing a movie.
Iko Uwais, known for his roles in films like The Raid, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Snake Eyes, is set to direct and star in Timur. The movie is inspired by the 1996 Mapenduma hostage crisis. Uwais plays a soldier who leads a dangerous rescue mission to save researchers from the World Wildlife Fund after they’ve been kidnapped and held captive deep within the Indonesian jungle.
The footage demonstrates that Uwais Pictures has mastered the intense fight choreography, action design, and stunt work seen in films like The Raid and The Night Comes for Us. This is the primary goal of Uwais’s new production company. Furthermore, Timur aims to deliver this exciting action within a powerful and true-to-life war story. The film will feature several action stars alongside Uwais, including Andri Mashadi (The Shadow Strays), Yusuf Mahardika (Borderless Fog), Yasamin Jasem (Temurun), and Prabowo Subianto, who participated in the actual Operation Mapenduma rescue.
We’ve got an exciting new trailer for Timur, and it looks like we now have a release date! Although not officially announced, a recent listing suggests Timur will be available to stream digitally starting April 7, 2026. If this is correct, fans around the world – including those in the US – will be able to enjoy another action-packed movie starring Iko Uwais in just over a week.

Though he’s started his own production company, Uwais Pictures, actor and martial artist Uwais is still working on Hollywood projects. He recently starred in the action thriller MRI, directed by Liam O’Donnell (known for Skyline), a film with a straightforward, classic action plot. Uwais plays a down-on-his-luck hitman who gets caught in a hostage situation during an MRI scan when gangsters take over the hospital. He’s also returning to science fiction with Skyline: Warpath, joining John Wick’s Scott Adkins, and will soon share the screen with Oscar nominee Jake Gyllenhaal in the Amazon sequel Road House 2.
