On October 3rd, Discord announced a security incident involving one of its customer support partners. While Discord’s own systems were secure, a breach at this partner exposed data from users who had previously contacted Discord’s Support or Trust & Safety teams. Discord estimates this could affect over two million customers.

According to an official statement, the incident wasn’t a direct hack of Discord itself. Instead, a hacker gained access to one of Discord’s partners and appeared to be attempting to extort the company, possibly through ransom or blackmail.
The stolen data came from support interactions and might include:
- Names, Discord usernames, emails, and any contact details shared with support.
- Partial payment info – like payment type, purchase history, and the last four digits of credit cards.
- IP addresses.
- Messages sent to and from Discord’s support agents.
- Government ID images for users who submitted them during age-verification appeals.
A hacker posted stolen data on X (formerly Twitter), which included personal details and a picture of someone’s ID, along with a handwritten note and their face.

Discord has confirmed that sensitive information like full credit card numbers, passwords, and private messages were not compromised in the recent security incident. They are contacting people whose data may have been affected, particularly those whose identification details were involved. Discord has also blocked access for the vendor responsible and alerted the authorities and data protection agencies.
