After much anticipation, Nancy Meyers announced she’s starting a new movie in May. At a recent screening of Father of the Bride in Los Angeles, she revealed the film will be released in theaters, not on a streaming service, and that Kieran Culkin will be one of the stars.
We last heard that Meyers had written a romantic comedy, loosely based on her own life, called Paris Paramount. She initially tried to get Netflix to fund it, but they wouldn’t agree to her budget request. Netflix had initially approved a $130 million budget, but Meyers’ agency asked for $150 million, and Netflix declined. The project has been stalled since 2023. While Meyers didn’t confirm if her upcoming film shoot was for Paris Paramount, she had been seeking funding from other studios since leaving Netflix.
I remember when Maya Meyers first mentioned her film, Paris Paramount, back in 2023. She explained the title came from a quote by Ernst Lubitsch, who apparently preferred working at Paris, Paramount studios to actually being in Paris, France! She shared on Instagram that the movie follows a group of filmmakers and really captures the special, almost magical side of what we do. Originally, she had planned to star Scarlett Johansson, Owen Wilson, Penélope Cruz, and Michael Fassbender, but you’ll notice Kieran Culkin isn’t among them.
