Sydney Sweeney continues her whirlwind of projects, even after facing some criticism this summer for an American Eagle ad and defending her role in the film Christy. Her latest promotion is for the thriller The Housemaid, where she stars alongside Amanda Seyfried. After that, she’ll be back for another season of Euphoria in the spring – it seems like she’s always working! The trailer for The Housemaid, released on November 12th, starts with a seemingly cheerful “Season’s Greetings from the Winchester Family,” but quickly hints at a dark and unsettling story.
The movie centers on Millie (Sweeney), a new housekeeper working in a lovely suburban home, and the psychological torment she endures at the hands of the homeowner, Nina (Seyfried). In one scene, Nina explodes, shouting “Billie threw away my PTA notes!” and throwing everything from the refrigerator onto the floor. She then quickly composes herself, cuddling with her husband while issuing a chilling warning to Millie: “You need to be more careful next time. You’ve ruined my entire day.”
The new thriller The Housemaid is based on Freida McFadden’s popular novel. Director Paul Feig, known for films like A Simple Favor, brings another suspenseful story to the screen. Brandon Sklenar (It Ends With Us) plays Nina’s husband, and Michele Morrone (Another Simple Favor) joins the cast as the groundskeeper. The Housemaid hits theaters on December 19th – just in time for the holidays, and sure to spark plenty of discussion.
