A film adaptation of the popular video game The Sims is currently being developed. Margot Robbie’s production company, LuckyChap, is producing the movie, alongside veteran Hollywood producer Roy Lee. Lee recently offered some details about what viewers can anticipate from the film.
In an interview with The Direct, producer Roy Lee shared his expectations for the upcoming Sims movie, describing it as potentially “unique.” He explained that initial reactions to the project are reminiscent of those to The Lego Movie – many were skeptical about how a concept like that could work as a live-action film. Just as with Lego Movie, Lee believes people will be surprised and understand the vision once they see the finished Sims movie.
I’m so excited about the upcoming Sims movie! Knowing Phil Lord and Christopher Miller produced both The Lego Movie and the recent Barbie hit, it makes me feel good about this one. They said people were curious about what a Barbie movie could even *be*, and they think The Sims movie will land somewhere in that same creative space – a really fun and unexpected place, like those other films!
We don’t know yet who will be in the movie based on The Sims 4. A Sims movie was first proposed in 2007 at Fox, but the project never moved forward.
Okay, so I just heard some awesome news! They’re actually making a Sims movie for Amazon MGM Studios, and Kate Herron, who did Loki, is directing and writing it with Briony Redman. It’s not the only game getting the Hollywood treatment either – Amazon’s also working on TV shows for Mass Effect, Wolfenstein, Tomb Raider, God of War, and Life is Strange! Plus, if you’re like me and loved the Fallout show, the second season drops this December. Seriously, so much good stuff coming!
The Sims 4 is still receiving updates and new content, and there are currently no plans to create The Sims 5.
