Depending on where you’re from, you might have ended this week’s episode of the Real Housewives of Rhode Island wondering: what is a “slam pig”? It’s a term that Rosie uses this week, said with such confident fervor that suggests we should all be familiar. And if you have enough enemies in New England, you might already be! As it turns out, it’s a regional insult that Rosie says is “just like a mean thing that you say about someone.” Urban Dictionary gets a little more specific, tying the term to promiscuity (perhaps it’s a distant relative of Kim Richards’ “slut pig” insult). And who said reality television wasn’t educational? Thanks to Bravo, we are citizens of the world — or at least the corners of the world that have their own Real Housewives cast.
Before we get to Rosie’s lesson, there’s a bit of a story about Alicia. She really wants to overcome her fear of driving, mostly because her daughter has dance classes every weekday and needs a ride. She was very worried about a specific bridge, describing it as flimsy and scary, but when we actually got there, I couldn’t help but laugh! It turned out to be a very simple overpass. I was so happy for her when she confidently drove over it – it was a small challenge, but a big win!
After their cast trip, Kelsey is settling into her new apartment, but her mom and sister are upset to learn her older benefactor is still covering most of her expenses. Ashley is surprisingly eager for her husband to be more active on Instagram, hoping it will earn him more money than their coffee shop. It’s strange to me why he prefers working in the service industry when he could easily make money as an influencer. Meanwhile, Liz and Dolores visit a factory that makes cannabis edibles, creating a fun, lighthearted moment reminiscent of Lucy and Ethel.
Following a difficult conversation with Alicia about her past, Jo-Ellen decided it was time to address the pain she experienced as a child with her mother. While her mom offered an apology, it didn’t quite seem like she fully understood the extent of the hurt. She explained her own upbringing, describing a childhood where she didn’t receive much affection and recalling an incident where her mother prioritized a stained carpet over her injury. This pattern continued, but Jo-Ellen was determined not to repeat it. Jo-Ellen’s sister, Jen, played a crucial role in helping them communicate, acting as a mediator and helping each of them understand the other’s perspective. Fortunately, Jen skillfully navigated the conversation, and Jo-Ellen and her mother were able to end on a hopeful note, suggesting they could move towards forgiveness.
Things are looking up for Jo-Ellen – she’s off the hook for telling Rulla about the video of her husband’s affair. It’s strange that Alicia was chosen for this difficult task, but she’s the one who has to deliver the news. Before she does, Alicia and Billy plan a dinner with Rulla and Brian to gauge how things are going with the couple. Surprisingly, Rulla is feeling well enough to join them, having recovered from a recent illness that kept her from a trip to Newport. We even see a funny picture of her in leopard-print pajamas in a hospital bed, dramatically covering her face – very reminiscent of Vicki Gunvalson!
Dinner conversation mostly revolved around Brian’s work as a doctor, and how people are using cosmetic procedures to improve their appearance. Alicia jokingly teased Brian about indulging in pizza while he’s able to get Botox treatments. This led to a long explanation from Brian about all the cosmetic products and medicines he personally uses. Alicia seemed fascinated, clearly absorbing all the details. I was surprised, though – I always thought Brian was a podiatrist!
He’s definitely a strange character. He’ll ask Rulla if he can use the bathroom whenever his phone rings, but then claims he was on a work call when he returns. Alicia notices this doesn’t add up, as she points out in her private interview. Then, he launches into a story about how he and Rulla met, which isn’t as sweet as he believes. He boasts about ordering double drinks for her at the bar, saying with poor taste that “it worked out pretty well.” It’s a story better suited for a courtroom than for a reality show. To top it all off, he explains he likes his steaks medium-well because they remind him of foot surgery. He’s just a bit of a weirdo, and the whole dinner is so strange that Alicia is completely thrown off and doesn’t even try to discuss the video – that will have to wait for another time.
Beyond the video footage, the cast’s trip to Newport sparked a potential reconciliation between Kelsey and Rosie. They both seem eager to rebuild their friendship, and Rosie has even asked Kelsey to style her hair again – this time documenting it on Instagram. While revisiting the source of their past conflict might seem risky, they’re optimistic and plan to laugh off their previous drama. Rosie is also going the extra mile, giving Kelsey access to her house plans and a tape measure so she can personally verify the square footage.
Okay, so Kelsey tries to make light of everything by showing up at Rosie’s house with her car siren going, pretending to be the “house police.” It seemed like a harmless, self-deprecating attempt to smooth things over. But it totally backfired the moment she pulled up. Rosie was immediately irritated and pointed out that sirens are a no-go in her neighborhood – apparently, it’s a really nice community with strict rules. Honestly, though, the whole thing made me wonder… why on earth does Kelsey even have a siren on her car? It seems totally illegal for a regular person to have one, doesn’t it? Then again, with Alicia already causing chaos by running red lights and, well, hitting people, maybe an illegal siren isn’t even the biggest problem in Rhode Island right now.
When their attempt at humor fell flat and made things even more uncomfortable, the situation quickly escalated. Both women misinterpreted each other’s comments as personal attacks, immediately restarting their argument. Rosie accused Kelsey of fixating on house size despite not owning a home herself, and questioned why she was being targeted with so much hostility. In a surprisingly articulate outburst, Rosie sarcastically apologized for calling Kelsey a polygamist at a picnic. This quickly spiraled into a loud and intense argument filled with anger and insults. Rosie then bluntly told Kelsey that her profession wasn’t legitimate and claimed her pageant title was purchased by a wealthy benefactor who bribed the judges.
Before Kelsey even had a chance to settle in, Rosie grabbed her bag and forced her out of the house, physically pushing her and slamming the door until a producer intervened to stop things from escalating. Kelsey then did something classic for a Housewives cast member: she went back inside after being kicked out. She wanted to make it clear that she won her pageant honestly, shouting this to Rosie. This led to one of the most memorable moments in Housewives history: Rosie yelling down the stairs that Kelsey was a “slam pig.” Any chance of them making peace disappeared instantly, and it’s safe to say these two won’t be friends anytime soon.
