When Bravo announced the newest installment of The Real Housewives, set in Rhode Island, many were surprised. Previous seasons had featured women from bustling cities like New Jersey, Beverly Hills, and Atlanta, so Rhode Island felt like a quieter choice. However, the cast has proven they can bring the drama, and Sunday night’s episode marked a peak moment. It’s time to acknowledge Rosie DiMare, who has officially gifted us with a new and memorable phrase: “slam pig.”
During a heated argument with fellow reality star Kelsey Swanson, Rosie brought up Kelsey’s past relationship history and accused her of lying about the size of her home. The fight escalated quickly, with Rosie yelling at Kelsey about her lack of a house, husband, and successful career. Things got even more intense when Rosie publicly accused Kelsey of having affairs with married men, repeatedly calling her a vulgar name and warning her to stay away. Eventually, show producers had to step in and separate the two women.
During a recent appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, Rosie O’Donnell used the term “slam pig” twice, which confused some viewers. She explained it’s a New England insult for someone you strongly dislike. According to Urban Dictionary, the term describes a woman who is considered average-looking and engages in casual sexual encounters when intoxicated. Another cast member, Alicia Carmody, offered a blunt definition, calling someone referred to as a “slam pig” a prostitute, using a distinctive Rhode Island pronunciation.
Regardless of how you define it, the important thing is that viewers of The Real Housewives are now familiar with a part of New England culture they can incorporate into their everyday lives. Similar to how The Real Housewives of New Jersey brought the phrase “prostitution whore” into popular conversation and The Real Housewives of Atlanta made people question the cleanliness of white refrigerators, The Real Housewives of Rhode Island has a chance to leave its own mark on popular culture.
