The Outer Worlds is being delisted on May 27 for PC platforms, new upgrade options announced

Obsidian Entertainment has announced that the PC versions of The Outer Worlds will no longer be available for purchase on platforms like Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, and the Microsoft Store starting May 27th.

Okay, so here’s the deal with The Outer Worlds on PC storefronts. After May 27th, they’re taking the original game off the digital shelves and only the ‘Spacer’s Choice Edition’ will be available. If you already own the original, don’t worry – you’ll still be able to download it. The Spacer’s Choice Edition is basically the complete package – it includes the main game and all the DLC, plus some extra improvements. Thankfully, this doesn’t affect the game on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, or Switch! And here’s a cool thing for those of us on PS4 and Xbox One: if you own the base game before May 27th, you’ll get a free upgrade to the Spacer’s Choice Edition. Pretty neat, right?

Starting May 27th, you’ll need to own both the original game and its DLC to receive the free upgrade. After that date, the base game will cost $24.99 and the DLC will be $14.99 on Xbox One and PlayStation 4. A new update for The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition is also available, with a full list of improvements and fixes available here.

Okay, so good news for anyone who loves The Outer Worlds! The upgraded Spacer’s Choice Edition just dropped on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. And if you’re still on older hardware, the original game is still available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and even the Nintendo Switch. So pretty much anyone can jump in and explore the Halcyon colony now!

You can find the full announcement from Obsidian below:

We’re excited to announce updates are rolling out for The Outer Worlds, delivered through the Spacer’s Choice Edition. The first update, available now, is a test of our update system and addresses some existing bugs. A larger patch will follow soon, bringing improvements to performance and lighting, plus fixes for various quests and gameplay issues. As a bonus, this update will also add a completely new feature to the original game: grenades!

With the release of our second update, we’re making some changes to how The Outer Worlds is available. Starting May 27th, the original version of the game will no longer be sold, and only the Spacer’s Choice Edition will be available for purchase on most platforms. If you already own the original, you’ll still be able to play it. This change doesn’t affect the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, or Nintendo Switch versions.

Here’s some exciting news! If you already own The Outer Worlds (the base game) before May 27th, you’ll get the Spacer’s Choice Edition completely free. This offer applies to all platforms where the Spacer’s Choice Edition is available – that includes Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG. After May 27th, the Spacer’s Choice Edition will be available for purchase at $39.99.

Players with Xbox One or PlayStation 4 will see a few changes to how they upgrade to The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition. Starting May 27th, you’ll need to own both the original game and both of its DLCs to get the upgrade. We’re removing the option to purchase the upgrade separately – if you already have everything, you’ll automatically receive the Spacer’s Choice Edition. The base game will cost $24.99 and each DLC will be $14.99 on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Check out our forums for the complete list of changes in today’s update! Plus, we’re planning a bigger update at the end of May, so keep an eye out for that too.
