The Madison‘s brutal filming conditions have been revealed.
Taylor Sheridan’s latest series for Paramount, The Madison, features a talented cast including Michelle Pfeiffer, Kurt Russell, and Matthew Fox. The show centers on the Clyburn family, who move from New York City to Montana’s Madison River valley hoping to overcome a devastating loss. It explores their complex family relationships and the challenges of dealing with grief in a fresh and insightful way.
Michelle Pfeiffer, star of The Madison, recently told Page Six about what fans can expect in the show’s next season following its popular debut. She also revealed the filming process was surprisingly challenging. The series, led by Taylor Sheridan, is filmed in Montana and Texas, and Pfeiffer admitted it took some time to adjust to the conditions.
It’s basically like camping – there’s no indoor plumbing at all, not even a functioning outhouse. No air conditioning, no running water, nothing like that. But despite all that, the place is absolutely stunning.
Adjusting to the location took some time because the cabin was built quickly. Things felt rushed, and certain basic comforts weren’t available. They couldn’t use trailers due to the 360-degree filming, and there was very little space for us to relax. There weren’t any restrooms or food nearby, and it was especially challenging in the winter – we even had to ask for a heater.
During the summer, we realized we needed umbrellas not for rain, but to shield ourselves from the strong sun. It took us about half the time to understand that.
Let me tell you, the way Michelle Pfeiffer described filming The Madison really struck me. It wasn’t just about a pretty backdrop created with CGI; the actors were genuinely living the lives of their characters, fully immersed in that world. Now, Yellowstone is also filmed in Montana, and Taylor Sheridan hasn’t said whether The Madison connects to his Yellowstone universe. But, I recently heard from The Madison’s star, Russell, that he’s definitely hoping for a crossover! That would be something to see.
“The Madison” quickly became a hit for Paramount+ and Taylor Sheridan, reaching over 8 million viewers worldwide in its first ten days. Because of its popularity, the show has been renewed for two more seasons.
While it performed well with critics, earning a 62% rating, this isn’t Taylor Sheridan’s highest-rated series on Rotten Tomatoes. That title belongs to 1923, the Yellowstone spinoff, which boasts a 94% critic score. Another prequel, 1883, is also highly regarded, with an 89% rating.
The Madison is available to stream on Paramount+.
