Steam Workshop creators will soon have the option to receive advance payments – potentially reaching thousands of dollars – for items they create for Counter-Strike 2, particularly those focused on specific popular themes.
While winter-themed content isn’t here yet for CS:GO 2, Valve has given fans a little early Christmas surprise. They recently announced new rules about how items can be shared in the game, according to a post on Steam.
I was just reading about some potential changes coming to Counter-Strike 2, and it sounds really cool! Basically, Valve is considering letting teams pay a fixed fee – $35,000 for weapon skins and $6,000 for each sticker or charm – to use items created by the community. If teams agree, all the stuff we’ve made in the Workshop could finally be shared across the game, even in places like the Armory where community items weren’t allowed before. It’s a big step for creators, and would be awesome for the game!
Valve is kicking off a community contribution period with some specific ideas. The next game update will feature weapon designs inspired by Arabian art and stories, along with a spy/tech theme. They’re also looking for sticker designs based on car racing, fruits, and vegetables.
While these new requirements aren’t mandatory, some designers are concerned Valve might eventually reduce how much money creators can earn. Popular designers currently make significant income from their work—reports suggest some have earned as much as $500,000 from just one item design.
However, many believe this is a good deal for designers. Unlike current items, these licensed products won’t be limited to specific collections. Some also see this as Valve moving away from traditional loot boxes.
