What Is The Conjuring: Last Rites About?
The Conjuring: Last Rites is the third film in The Conjuring series, following the original 2013 movie. The story is based on a real case investigated by Ed and Lorraine Warren, known as the Smurl haunting. In the film, the Warrens travel to Pennsylvania to help a family experiencing paranormal activity, where they encounter a demon from a past case that continues to torment Lorraine.
Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga return as Ed and Lorraine Warren, the paranormal investigators who the Conjuring films are based on. Michael Chaves directed the latest installment, The Conjuring: Last Rites, with a script by Ian Goldberg, Richard Naing, and David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick. James Wan, the creator of the series, helped develop the story.
Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga return as Ed and Lorraine Warren in the movie. Orion Smith and Madison Lawlor play younger versions of the couple in flashback sequences. Mia Tomlinson portrays the Warrens’ daughter, Judy, while Emmy Nolan plays Judy in flashbacks. Ben Hardy stars as Judy’s boyfriend, Tom Spera.
Is The Conjuring: Last Rites Really the End for the Series?
Warner Bros. originally advertised The Conjuring: Last Rites as the last movie in The Conjuring series. But now, HBO Max is creating a new show based on flashbacks of Ed and Lorraine Warren when they were younger, which were featured in Last Rites.
I’m really curious about the new Conjuring prequel! From what I’ve heard, Rodrigue Huart, who’s done some interesting short films, might be directing. Thankfully, Richard Naing and Ian Goldberg – they’ve written a few of the Conjuring movies already, including The Conjuring: Last Rites – are tackling the script, so at least we know that part’s in good hands. It sounds like James Wan won’t be directly involved this time, which is a little concerning, and it’s a big question whether Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga will show up at all, considering it’s a prequel. It’ll be interesting to see how it all comes together!
Information about the project is limited, but Nancy Won, who has worked on shows like Marvel’s Jessica Jones, Supernatural, and Jericho, will be the writer, executive producer, and showrunner.
The Conjuring: Last Rites is streaming now on Prime Video.
