The Boys Officially Confirms Sister Sage Is Worse Than Homelander

Be warned, this article reveals major spoilers for episode 5 of The Boys season 5, titled “One Shots.” Homelander has been the primary villain of The Boys since the beginning, and thanks to Antony Starr’s incredible performance, he’s become one of the most memorable TV villains of recent years. His frightening actions, strange personality, and distinctive behavior have made him stand out, eclipsing almost every other villain on the show.

Homelander has become the most captivating character in The Boys, even overshadowing the heroes. Despite being utterly unlikeable, viewers are eagerly anticipating his downfall and who will ultimately kill him in season 5. Because he’s so morally corrupt, his death is expected to be the most rewarding moment of the entire series.

Surprisingly, Sister Sage might be even more dangerous than Homelander. From the moment she appeared in season 4, she’s proven herself to be a skilled manipulator. She joined the Seven despite her low opinion of Homelander, seemingly just to challenge herself and see what she could accomplish.

Most superheroes have powers like super strength or unusual physical abilities, but Sister Sage’s power is her incredibly high intelligence. She’s considered the smartest person on the planet, which allows her to sometimes go toe-to-toe with the leader of The Seven, Homelander. However, the time jump in The Boys season 5 suggests she’s lost some of her influence over him.

He now believes he’s a god and ignores everyone’s advice, which makes it puzzling why Sage remains so devoted to him. Fortunately, the show revealed her plan: she wants Homelander to be killed by the supervirus, hoping to ignite a war between superpowered individuals and humans, ultimately leaving her as the sole survivor.

Sister Sage’s Plan Sounds Even Worse Than Homelander Winning

Sister Sage is incredibly smart, so her plan seems surprisingly basic – and terrifying. She wants to wipe out everyone on Earth. Her idea is to unleash a virus that slowly kills people with Compound V, but not before it drives them to attack normal humans, who would unknowingly spread the virus.

Since Sage is also a superpowered individual, she’d be vulnerable unless she received V-One from The Boys, but she doesn’t seem to be planning on getting it. Though she’s shown interest in the substance, it appears her goal is to prevent others – especially Homelander – from using it or becoming immune to the virus.

She plans to wait out the coming disaster in her Colorado bunker, confident it will shield her from the deadly supe virus that threatens to wipe out all other supers. Given her incredibly high intelligence, she seems capable of successfully executing her plan, which is deeply unsettling if she isn’t stopped.

Honestly, dealing with Homelander is terrifying, but at least if you play up to him, you might survive. It wouldn’t be a great life, living under his rule, but it’s a life. The thing with Sage, though? She genuinely wants to wipe everyone out except herself. That’s a whole other level of scary – there’s no surviving that, no matter what you do.

Although she told Ashley she could come to the bunker after explaining her plan, it’s likely a deception. She really just wants to be left alone to read in peace. If she gets her way, the outcome would probably be even worse than living under Homelander’s harsh rule.

It wasn’t shocking to learn Sister Sage is so self-serving, considering her alliances on the show. However, the simplicity of her ultimate, villainous goal is surprising, especially since she’s consistently been presented as the most intelligent character in The Boys.

Sage’s End Goal Finally Explains Why She’s Put Up With Homelander For So Long

Given how intelligent Sister Sage has been portrayed in The Boys, it always seemed strange that she would align herself with Homelander, and continue to do so. Thankfully, it’s now clear she has a larger plan, and she’s actually manipulating him to achieve her own goals.

As someone who’s been watching everything unfold, it’s clear Homelander’s power makes him the ideal candidate to take control of America and really change things – which is exactly what Sage needs for the next stage of her plan. But honestly, knowing how much Sage dislikes people, I can only imagine how awful it’s been for her to constantly have to watch and even praise him. He’s far from perfect, and she must be suffering through it all!

It’s been a real challenge for her to get Americans to notice him more, but without making him seem too extreme. She clearly dislikes the leader of the Seven – her expressions and private talks reveal that – but she needs him to create conflict between superheroes and ordinary people.

Sage wouldn’t risk working with people she disliked unless she was confident her plan would succeed. She believes the potential payoff makes it all worth it. It’s unclear if she anticipated events like Soldier Boy’s apparent death or Quinn’s sudden appearance, but she’s consistently managed to stay ahead of the game.

Understanding her motivations and the sacrifices she’s made makes her actions in the last few episodes especially captivating, because she’ll be hard to stop. It’s ironic that the person most likely to thwart her is the very one who helped her succeed for the past two years.

Ironically, Homelander Is The Boys’ Best Chance Of Stopping Sage

Besides Ashley, nobody is aware of Sister Sage’s overall plan, so no one is actively working to prevent it. Although Ashley has a conscience, it’s unlikely she’ll be the one to stop the most intelligent person on The Boys, particularly because Sage confided in her hoping for help.

Honestly, watching ‘The Boys’, I’m worried about Stormfront. The guys could just straight-up kill her with that supe virus, or even unleash it publicly before she gets to safety. But if I had to bet on who will stop her? It’s gotta be Homelander. He’s so erratic, you never know what he’s going to do, and that makes him the most likely threat to her plans.

While things have largely unfolded as Sage planned, controlling Homelander has been difficult, particularly because of his inflated ego. He casually killed Firecracker despite her loyalty, and there’s nothing to prevent him from doing the same to Sage over a small disagreement.

Earlier in season 5 of The Boys, Homelander nearly killed his son, Ryan. Given how far he was willing to go with Ryan, it’s believable he wouldn’t hesitate to eliminate Sage, particularly if he discovered what she was really up to. It makes sense that two of the show’s major villains are now openly clashing, even though they’ve been presented as allies.

Homelander and Sister Sage are fundamentally at odds, with conflicting goals, making a peaceful resolution impossible. As the primary antagonist of The Boys, Homelander is the most probable character to eliminate Sage. It’s unclear if this will happen through careful planning or a spontaneous act, but surprisingly, Homelander currently represents Sage’s greatest threat in the upcoming fifth season.
