The first part of Stranger Things season 5 is now available on Netflix, and the show’s creator, Ross Duffer, has a recommendation for viewers about how to best enjoy the initial four episodes.
Everyone was eagerly awaiting the fifth and final season of Stranger Things, and when the first part was released, so many people started watching that Netflix temporarily experienced some technical difficulties.
The first four episodes are now available to stream, and they’re packed with exciting things! We meet a new character, Mr. Watsit, and a familiar face, 008, all while enjoying a fantastic soundtrack filled with 1980s hits, including a song by Tiffany.
But if you haven’t yet watched, there’s something you might need to do in advance of tuning in…
Ross Duffer wants Stranger Things fans to turn off “garbage” TV settings

Ross Duffer, one of the creators and showrunners of Stranger Things (along with his brother Matt), hopes viewers will watch the final episodes as originally intended.
This might involve adjusting settings on your TV, and Ross shared a video on Instagram with detailed instructions on how to do it.
He started with a quick message before the video, just to make sure everyone’s TVs were adjusted correctly.

Ross advises viewers to disable features like dynamic contrast, super resolution, edge enhancement, and color filters, dismissing them as unnecessary and low-quality settings.
Duffer recommends turning off noise reduction and identifies true-motion and smooth-motion settings as key contributors to the unwanted “soap opera effect,” suggesting they should be disabled.
He concludes his advice with a strong warning: avoid any setting labeled ‘vivid’ as it will drastically worsen the picture quality and distort the filmmakers’ original vision.
