For many years, Star Wars was known mostly for its films, starting with the original trilogy from 1977-1983 and continuing with the prequel trilogy from 1993-2005. In 2008, the franchise expanded in a major way with its first official animated series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars. While it took a while to build an audience, it’s now considered one of the best Star Wars shows and paved the way for many more. Recently, Star Wars has focused heavily on live-action TV series, with The Mandalorian and Andor becoming especially popular.
It’s clear that the success of The Clone Wars heavily influenced the new Star Wars movie, The Mandalorian and Grogu. While Star Wars’ animated series, like Star Wars Rebels and Star Wars: The Bad Batch, have passionate fan bases, they generally reach smaller audiences than the live-action films and shows. Notably, both animated series are connected to the storyline of The Clone Wars.
Despite the many animated shows available, the Tales of series have quietly become standouts. This includes Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi, Star Wars: Tales of the Empire, and Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld. Each series focuses on two characters, dedicating three episodes to exploring their individual stories. Tales of the Jedi followed Count Dooku and Ahsoka Tano, Tales of the Empire featured Barriss Offee and Morgan Elsbeth, and Tales of the Underworld centered on Cad Bane and Asajj Ventress. Now, fans are hoping for at least one more installment in the Tales of series.
Tales Of The Senate Is The Perfect Next “Tales Of” Show
So far, the Tales of series has wisely focused on key groups like the Jedi, the Empire, and bounty hunters – all of which have played major roles in Star Wars films and TV. These groups also include some of the most compelling characters in the franchise. Following that same pattern, there’s another group that deserves its own show: Senators.
A show called Star Wars: Tales of the Senate would be a great addition to existing series, as senators haven’t been a central focus on screen despite their importance. Characters like Padmé Amidala (in the prequels and The Clone Wars) and Mon Mothma (Andor and other Star Wars stories) have been key players, but they deserve more screen time and attention.
Senators played a vital role in dismantling the Empire, especially during its most oppressive period, but they often haven’t received the recognition they deserve compared to other Rebel figures – as the show Andor highlighted. A series focused on key senators would not only correct this oversight but also introduce fresh and compelling stories to the Star Wars universe.
Senator Chuchi And Bail Organa Should Be The Focus
If a series focusing on the Senate were made, Bail Organa and Riyo Chuchi would both be great choices. Bail has already appeared in many Star Wars projects, including the prequel films, The Clone Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Andor. However, his storylines have usually centered on his relationships with others—like Leia and the Jedi—rather than his own accomplishments. He’s a major hero in the Star Wars universe and deserves a story that highlights his contributions.
Senator Chuchi might be a surprising pick, but she’d be a fantastic addition to the series. She’s already proven her courage and heroism in The Clone Wars and The Bad Batch. It would be especially compelling to see more of her story, specifically how she helped the Rebellion during the difficult years after the fall of the Jedi. While it’s unclear if Star Wars will create more anthology series like Tales of the Jedi, a show focused on Tales of the Senate is essential.
