Genius Facebook Marketplace sellers use AI models to sell products no one wants

People selling items on Facebook Marketplace are getting a lot of attention online for the clever methods they’re using to make sure their products get noticed.

Facebook Marketplace is a great place to sell things you no longer want, but how easily your listing gets noticed depends on what you’re selling.

A seller was attempting to sell a Caterpillar 950 forklift attachment – including forks and a dump bucket – for more than $10,000.

Since most customers didn’t need the technical equipment he was selling, Brandon Carone needed a new approach. He used AI to help, realizing people might be more interested in seeing attractive models than the parts themselves.

Facebook Marketplace sellers flooded with messages after adding AI models to listing

I was so surprised when I saw the photos for Carone’s listings! They used AI-generated models wearing shorts and pajamas, and it really grabbed everyone’s attention. It was a pretty clever way to make the listings stand out, honestly.

The listings caught the eyes of users who then shared them on X, where they went viral.

Someone on Facebook Marketplace is listing heavy Caterpillar industrial equipment with AI-generated images of women added to the photos. It’s pretty ridiculous, and honestly, kind of upsetting.

A screenshot of an online listing went viral, gaining almost 3 million views, with one user commenting that the seller was using AI-generated women to help sell his extra heavy equipment.

Trung Phan noticed someone on Facebook Marketplace is using AI-generated images of women in their listings for large Caterpillar industrial equipment. He joked that the listings are likely getting a lot of attention, adding he was ‘laughing-crying’ at the unusual tactic.

It wasn’t long before others began using this same approach with impressive results. Items that previously hadn’t attracted any interest quickly gained a lot of potential buyers.

Oh trung I tried the same thing with my gym machinery, and im flooded with interest today LOL

I noticed a huge difference when I updated the pictures in my listings! I tried it with my gym equipment stuff, and suddenly I’m getting tons of interest. Before, nobody was even looking!

The listings were dead until I updated the images LOL

Using attractive people or things to sell everyday items isn’t a new tactic, but it’s a smart way to market them.

Recently, an Uber Eats driver gained attention online for adding pictures of her feet to delivery photos, hoping to earn larger tips – and it worked so well that others started doing it too!
