Paramount is planning a major expansion of the Deep Space Nine universe, aiming to introduce it to a new audience. They recently announced two new Star Trek series will be released as WEBTOONs.
The WEBTOON series Stargazers was the first of its kind, launching on May 17, 2026. It offers a preview of a new story described as a young adult romance set in the exciting world of Deep Space 9. The series explores themes of friendship, identity, and first love, all set against a galaxy rebuilding after a war. Stargazers is an official part of the Star Trek universe but tells a complete story on its own, designed to attract a new generation of fans as the franchise celebrates its 60th anniversary. Another series, Recollection, will be released later this summer.
Star Trek’s New Deep Space Nine Series Debuts With 3 Free Episodes

WEBTOON and Paramount recently launched a new Star Trek series with three free episodes, followed by five more available through a ‘Fast Pass.’ The complete series will have forty episodes, written by Jarrett Melendez (known for works like Chef’s Kiss and Young Men in Love) and illustrated by Kisai Entertainment.
The new story, Stargazers, centers around a heartwarming tale of friendship and ambition. Leon is a hopeful recent graduate enjoying life with his friends, including the inventive Churi and his dog, Alfie. Leon prefers to keep his options open and explore possibilities, while his friend Syrrik is focused on a clear path: attending Starfleet Academy and meeting the high expectations of his demanding father.
Leon and Syrrik are drawn back to each other after a disagreement, leading to a complex and developing romance. While preparing for a community talent show and dealing with friends, they uncover a station-wide animal-smuggling operation. As they face increasing pressure, including from Syrrik’s father, they must figure out what they want their future to look like.
Amy Jarashow, who leads global publishing at Paramount, discussed their collaboration with WEBTOON and the growing success of stories like Stargazers. She highlighted that Star Trek‘s enduring appeal, even after 60 years, lies in its ability to constantly offer fresh stories and innovative ways to tell them. Jarashow described this as a thrilling development for the franchise, allowing it to connect with long-time fans while also reaching new audiences through these original narratives.
A New Star Trek: Voyager Series is Also on the Way
WEBTOON is following up the success of Stargazers with a new series this summer. Details about the release date will be announced soon. Like Stargazers, this series will have 40 episodes, and the artwork will be created by Kisai Entertainment. The story is being written by Sam Maggs, a bestselling author known for her work on Critical Role, Star Wars, Marvel, and Star Trek. This new series promises a more mystery-focused storyline compared to the young adult romance of Stargazers.
A woman wakes up on a ship with no idea who she is or how she arrived. She soon finds she’s not alone – six other passengers have also lost their memories. As the group struggles to understand what happened, they seek help from the ship’s artificial intelligence, JAID, but suspect she isn’t telling them everything she knows.
The characters’ quest for answers takes them to a distant space station, where the main character meets a Vulcan who appears to know her. He gives her a device that reveals pieces of her forgotten past, but only in brief flashes. As the situation becomes more dangerous and they start to rely on each other, they discover a disturbing truth: most of them are considered fugitives by the Federation and are being sent to a re-education center. To make matters worse, a bounty hunter and a secret Federation agent are also among them, making it hard to know who to trust.
With secrets coming to light and friendships strained, the crew faces tough choices about who they truly are and what they’re capable of.
Star Trek: Stargazers is available now on WEBTOON, with Recollections to follow this summer.
