The story of Star Trek is about to become even more thrilling! Captain Kirk will battle the Borg for the very first time in official Star Trek history. This exciting face-off is coming soon in a new issue of the IDW comic series, Star Trek: The Last Starship.
The eighth issue of Star Trek: The Last Starship, launching on June 17, 2026, will feature an epic, previously unseen battle. Captain Kirk pursues Borg Queen Agnes Jurati after tracking her to a newly introduced space station called Deep Space Hope. IDW’s preview promises a legendary confrontation, playfully reminding fans that resistance is usually futile… except when Kirk is involved.
Captain Kirk Fights the Borg in New Star Trek Story
The story begins after a massive event called the Burn, which suddenly rendered all dilithium – the galaxy’s primary energy source – useless. This caused widespread destruction as any device powered by dilithium exploded. Following the Burn, the Borg brought Captain Kirk back to life, but their motives are currently unknown.
The latest installment of the series, launching on May 20th, finds the crew of the U.S.S. Omega discovering a potential breakthrough – a research station called Deep Space Hope – amidst a worsening galactic situation. The story continues in June with a threat that will attempt to take control of the ship’s power, leaving the crew in danger.
Jurati’s main challenge will be evading Captain Kirk, who is now on board and determined to understand why she and the Borg resurrected him. This new development might finally reveal the Borg’s true intentions: do they genuinely want to help him, or are they manipulating him for their own destruction?
The cover art for issue #8 of IDW’s The Last Starship suggests a dramatic showdown between Captain Kirk and the Borg Queen. The primary cover depicts the Queen with a determined expression, surrounded by faces of anguish. An alternate cover, illustrated by Suspiria Vilchez, is even more unsettling, showing Kirk and the Queen in a seemingly dangerous embrace that appears to be draining the life from him.
The Borg Queen Remains To Be One of Star Trek’s Most Terrifying Villains
The latest installment of The Last Starship continues the story following the devastating event known as the Burn, introducing a new threat for fans. This threat comes in the form of the Collective – a group of cyborgs controlled by a central intelligence called the Borg Queen, who directs their actions and leads their attacks.
Agnes Jurati is a character familiar to viewers of Star Trek: Picard. A highly skilled but somewhat innocent scientist specializing in cybernetics, she initially worked alongside Picard. However, during the show, she was taken over by the Borg Queen. Together, they formed a new version of the Borg Collective with a different approach: they vowed not to forcibly assimilate others and instead allowed members to maintain their individuality.
