I’m afraid a follow-up to the 2006 stealth-action game Sneak King is unlikely, Redditor JR_Masterson. The main reason? The game’s mascot was just too creepy! It’s probably best we don’t revisit that.
So, I was reading an interview with Burger King’s marketing chief, Joel Yashinsky, over on IGN, and apparently, they had to ditch the Creepy King. He explained that other places like McDonald’s were killing it with mascots that families loved, and to stay profitable, BK needed to go in that direction. Basically, the Creepy King just wasn’t bringing in enough business, so he had to go.
“There were a number of learnings we had from creepy king,” Yashinsky said. “And we’ve moved away from creepy king because he had limited appeal.”
If you recall Sneak King-or the Creepy King mascot Burger King featured from 2004 to 2011-the game let you play as The King, sneaking around to deliver meals to people who were hungry. It was one of three games collectively known as The Burger King Games. These included the bumper car simulation Big Bumpin’, the pocketbike racing game … PocketBike Racer, and of course, Sneak King.
Sneak King was an unusual game made to promote Burger King, but it surprisingly gained a dedicated fanbase. One Reddit user, JR_Masterson, has been hoping for a sequel for over 18 years! However, according to Restaurant Business, Burger King now seems to want to leave this spooky mascot behind.
