For those who were eagerly anticipating playing Slay the Spire 2 during its early access, unfortunately, there’s been a change in plans. In a recent Steam update from developers Mega Crit, it has been revealed that the release of the sequel has been moved to an undisclosed Thursday in March 2026. Initially, the roguelike deckbuilder was scheduled for launch sometime in 2025.
In the post, Mega Crit admitted that this wasn’t the desired news for anyone, not even themselves. However, they emphasized that due to various factors, the team requires a bit more time to prepare for the early access launch. The post further clarified that there isn’t one major issue causing the delay, but rather personal life matters affecting some team members (assuring everyone is fine), occasional over-ambition leading to too many ‘what if…’ moments, and the game simply needing a bit more refinement to meet their high standards.
As a dedicated fan, I wanted to share some clarification that came along with the recent post. To address one of the anticipated queries, no, the delay isn’t due to the renowned game-delaying title, Hollow Knight: Silksong. Interestingly enough, our team had already held discussions about this game’s potential delay before its release date was even announced. On a positive note, fans can enjoy playing Silksong while patiently waiting for our upcoming project!
The announcement made it clear once more that the increased content in Slay the Spire 2 compared to the original game contributes to its delay. Interestingly, they even previewed one novel feature – Alternate Acts. Once unlocked, these acts will present you with either of two distinct scenarios. These scenarios offer diverse settings, foes, events, and bosses, significantly enhancing gameplay variety between each playthrough.
This version retains the original meaning while using simpler language and a more conversational tone to make it easier to understand for a wider audience.
For instance, Act 1a is titled “Overgrowth,” where an old, overgrown ruin filled with peculiar plants and animals can be found. In contrast, Act 1b goes by the name “Underdocks,” a murky waterway linked to the Spire’s sewer system that could bring forth various mutated sea creatures and homeless individuals.
Or more simply:
Act 1a is called Overgrowth, an area with an old, overgrown ruin filled with strange plants and animals. Act 1b is named Underdocks, a murky waterway connected to the Spire’s sewer system that can produce mutated sea creatures and homeless individuals.
As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t help but get excited about next year when Slay the Spire 2 is scheduled to drop on “Secret Thursday,” March 2026! And
