Okay, so I just heard some awesome news! Apparently, two of the people who helped create KPop Demon Hunters actually wrote a script for a movie all about Lord Farquaad! That’s huge, and it’s getting Shrek fans like me really excited about the possibility of more Shrek movies in the future.
The new Netflix animated series, KPop Demon Hunters, had a successful weekend, winning both Best Animated Motion Picture and Best Original Song at the Golden Globes.
The movie’s Golden Globes win comes after a hugely successful 2025, where it became one of Netflix’s most popular films and drew large crowds to special sing-along showings in theaters nationwide.
People adore the movie for its compelling story, memorable characters, and fantastic soundtrack. Now, two of the creative forces behind it are bringing their skills to a brand new, large-scale franchise.

KPop Demon Hunters co-writers quietly developed a Lord Farquaad film
Danya Jimenez and Hannah McMechan joined forces with Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans to write the screenplay for KPop Demon Hunters.
Jimenez and McMechan are currently working on Tim Burton’s remake of the 1950s horror film, Attack of the Fifty-Foot Woman, and have hinted at even bigger plans for the project, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the pair created a feature for DreamWorks Animation centered around the Shrek character Lord Farquaad.
We don’t have much information about this project yet, and there haven’t been any updates on when it might be released or what it’s about.

Despite this, fans are still buzzing with guesses about the project, with many believing it’s a prequel considering what happened to the character in the original film.
“DreamWorks taking risks again… I’m simultaneously excited and terrified,” one user wrote on X.
One person suggested it would be funny if he was the villain in Shrek 5, imagining the surprise if everyone thought he was gone but he returned.
“God, please let this happen!” yet another said.
Jimenez and McMechan are also writing a Cheech & Chong biopic for Hidden Pictures, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
DreamWorks recently shared new details about the upcoming Shrek 5. A first look was teased in February 2025, and the movie is currently scheduled for release in theaters on December 23, 2026. That’s 16 years after the last Shrek film (excluding the Puss in Boots movies).
