Shia LaBeouf says he always makes time for fans, explaining that as a child, baseball legend Mike Piazza turned down his requests for autographs and photos about 90 times. This experience made him determined to never disappoint a fan himself.
The actor shared these thoughts in a recent interview with Andrew Callaghan, recorded after his arrest during Mardi Gras. A short video of the conversation has quickly become popular online.
Shia LaBeouf, who started his career as a child actor and later became a well-known Hollywood star, remembered going to Los Angeles Dodgers games as a kid through the Big Brothers program. He said that players usually signed autographs for fans waiting outside the stadium, but there was one player who didn’t.
In the video clip, LaBeouf recalled his lifelong pursuit of an autograph from baseball legend Mike Piazza, exclaiming, “Remember trying to get Mike Piazza’s autograph, you know, for my whole life, Mike Piazza?”
Shia says childhood snubs shaped how he treats fans
Callaghan asked LaBeouf about his rejection rate, and LaBeouf responded that he faced rejection roughly 90 times a day. He emphasized, “They were rejecting me 90 times.”
LaBeouf explained that those repeated rejections influenced how he approaches fame today.
I was so excited to hear him say he signs autographs for everyone! When someone asked if he ever says no, he laughed and said absolutely not, unless he’s with his child, having a meal, or… well, chasing after someone. It’s great to see he’s such a fan-friendly guy!
Rickey Henderson, a legendary player primarily known for his time with the Dodgers and Mets, and now a Hall of Famer, hasn’t publicly commented on the recent statements.
Shia LaBeouf remembers being rejected as a child, and that experience deeply affected him. He wants to make sure no one else feels that same pain.
