Ryan Reynolds is reportedly set to star in a remake of a classic action-comedy film originally made famous by . According to The Hollywood Reporter, Reynolds is working with Amazon MGM Studios on a new version of the 1974 movie, .
Ryan Reynolds is not only making and likely appearing in the new film, but he’s also involved in writing the script alongside Enzo Mileti and Scott Wilson – the duo known for their work on the Fargo TV series. The movie will be directed by Shane Reid, marking his first time in the director’s chair after previously editing the upcoming Marvel film, Deadpool & Wolverine.
The biggest question surrounding this movie is whether it will lead to Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman working together again, outside of their Marvel characters. The film’s style definitely echoes the energy they had in their hugely successful Marvel collaboration, and fans are eager to see them team up for something new – they’re even reportedly developing a project about a boy band! However, would another movie with the two of them feel too much like Deadpool & Wolverine to be successful? It’s possible, but studios haven’t let similar concerns stop them before. Reynolds and Jackman have great on-screen chemistry, and studios will likely capitalize on that for as long as possible.
What Is ‘Thunderbolt and Lightfoot‘ About?

The title Thunderbolt and Lightfoot doesn’t offer much of a clue about the movie’s plot, likely causing many people to overlook it. Here’s a brief summary to give you an idea of what it’s about.
During a car theft, carefree drifter Lightfoot (Jeff Bridges) unexpectedly meets seasoned thief Thunderbolt (Eastwood), who is also escaping. Thunderbolt’s former crew, Red (George Kennedy) and Eddie (Geoffrey Lewis), accuse him of betraying them during a past bank robbery in Montana. Once Thunderbolt convinces them he’s innocent, Lightfoot proposes they all team up and rob the same bank again.
The film really played into Clint Eastwood’s image as a hardened, no-nonsense character – the promotional poster even looked like it was inspired by Dirty Harry, with Eastwood scowling and pointing a gun directly at the viewer. But the movie’s tone is actually closer to Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, a fun and breezy action comedy, though it features a surprising twist that most audiences won’t anticipate.
The original movie was a big hit, earning $25 million at the box office despite only costing $2 million to make. It also received very positive reviews, with an 89% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. So, is Ryan Reynolds’ remake a lost cause, given the success of the first film? It’s possible, but that rarely stops studios from trying to revive popular older movies these days.
We don’t have a release date for the new Thunderbolt and Lightfoot movie yet, so it will probably be at least two years before it’s in theaters.
