Treasure Hunter has been a part of Runescape since 2014, but many players dislike it, feeling it gives those who pay extra an unfair advantage. The game’s creators, Jagex, are now considering changes to the feature and have decided to let the player community decide its future.
So Jagex is letting us vote on whether or not to get rid of Treasure Hunter in Runescape! If 100,000 of us vote to remove it, they’re saying it’ll be gone for good, along with a bunch of the XP and skilling items you get from it. Apparently, if that happens, the only things we’ll be able to buy with real money will be limited-stack Bonus XP for skills and cosmetics that don’t look too over the top. It’s a pretty big decision, honestly.
Runescape is entering a major new phase, according to an official announcement. The developers are committed to building a future for the game based on fairness and rewarding genuine effort, allowing players to fully enjoy the world of Gielinor. This is a significant change, and, like with the creation of Old School Runescape, players will have the final say through a vote.
Jagex has shared the findings from its tests with Treasure Hunter, which showed it was helpful for players who don’t have a lot of time to play. While Bonus XP will still be available to purchase, new limits on how much XP can be stored are designed to encourage players to earn experience through regular gameplay instead of just buying it.
If the vote to remove Treasure Hunter passes, Jagex plans to focus on improving Runescape over the next year. This includes major updates to the user interface, making it easier for new players to start, overhauling daily activities, and potentially changing how combat works. They’ll also be looking at how experience is earned in skills, aiming to make leveling up rewarding and reduce the advantage gained from purchasing items with real money.
Players need to be logged into their RuneScape account to vote. The voting is open until November 12th, and almost 40,000 players have already voted to remove Treasure Hunter.
So, I was checking out Old School Runescape the other day, and it’s crazy – they just hit a new record for how many people were playing at the same time! Over 241,000 players were logged in, which is insane! It’s awesome to see so many people still enjoying the game.
